Arriving in a new country and adapting to a new language and culture can be daunting, especially for refugees who have been forced to leave their homes. At Reception House, we offer orientations, assessments, and connections to community resources to support individuals in integrating and fostering a sense of belonging in Waterloo Region.
As individuals learn about life in Canada and engage with their new community, they gain confidence in their future. From discovering Canada’s Indigenous Peoples to understanding Canadian culture and norms, and mastering tasks like navigating public transportation, finding schools, grocery stores, and community centers, Reception House accompanies individuals throughout their settlement journey.
Our staff serve as guides and facilitators, empowering individuals through comprehensive support, assistance in accessing community resources, and companionship as they acclimate to their new surroundings. Our ultimate goal is to equip individuals with the tools, resources, and support they need to become self-sufficient members of society.
