At Reception House, we offer temporary accommodation for Government Assisted Refugees and assist them in securing their first home in Canada. Our staff dedicate over 30 hours on average to help each family find suitable housing. For families or individuals facing serious health or mobility concerns, the time invested increases significantly. Unfortunately, the lack of accessible and supportive housing exacerbates these challenges, resulting in prolonged stays in temporary accommodation.
Refugees often encounter discrimination and difficulties due to the lack of Canadian rental history, making it challenging to secure housing. To address this, we prioritize building strong relationships with landlords and provide resources to support positive landlord-tenant relationships. The ongoing affordable housing crisis has led to a significant portion of income being allocated to housing expenses.
We invite the entire community to join us in raising awareness about the urgent need for more affordable, accessible, and supportive housing. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of newcomers.
