Refugee Health Clinic
The Refugee Health Clinic is a joint initiative between Reception House Waterloo Region and the Centre for Family Medicine.
The Refugee Health Clinic enables practitioners at the Centre for Family Medicine:
- To provide an opportunity to participate in clinical practice in a specialized health clinic
- Exposure to a vulnerable, newcomer population with a wide-range of health concerns
- To experience working with interpreters and community partners
The Refugee Health Clinic provides all Reception House clients with the opportunity to see a physician within one-week of their arrival in Canada. Most refugees have had limited health care and have lived for many years in refugee camps without specialized health services. This has become a well received and very valuable service.
