Position Title: Community Engagement Specialist
Full Time: 37.5 hours per week
Reports to: CEO

Do you want to be part of an amazing team? We are looking for a Community Engagement Specialist to lead our work in Communications, Public Relations, Media Relations and working with our Manager of Philanthropy in the art of proposal writing.

Reception House Waterloo Region is a non-profit organization, which enables the successful resettlement of newly arrived refugees by providing temporary accommodation, orientations to Canadian life, assistance securing permanent housing, ongoing settlement and case management services.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Attributes

  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to distill complex or detailed information into concise messages that resonate with the audience and inspire action
  • Writes, composes and edits social media and other communications using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Reviews communications for relevancy to receiving audience
  • Ensures the overall flow and process flow of communication are appropriate
  • Reviews communications for appropriate visual aesthetics and accuracy
  • Develops communications templates for company use
  • A demonstrated commitment to Reception House Waterloo Region Vision, Mission and Values (www.receptionhouse.ca)
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of challenges faced by people who are refugees
  • Able to develop and implement educational materials, activities and events for various audiences
  • Able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences using a variety of strategies
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including, volunteers, clients and the media
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational, problem-solving and time management skills
  • Knowledge of and or fluency in a second language an asset

Required Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Communications or Journalism, with a minimum three years relevant experience
  • Knowledge and experience in adult education principles and experience working with volunteers
  • Extensive experience in planning, developing and delivering educational programs in a variety of settings and to diverse audiences
  • Proficient in WordPress,Microsoft Word, Power Point, Publisher and customized software, such as an internal database
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team
