As we navigate the turbulent waters of our shared journeys towards an unknown destination, an everyday reality is that the needs in our local community won’t just fade away and we need to be a part of the solution no matter what organization we represent. Timely discussions between Habitat Waterloo ReStore and Reception House recently have led to a shared understanding of the important work being done by both groups and that there will be ways our collective resources can help each other out.
When Reception House shared that a family was moving into their apartment and had gaps in the furniture they needed, it was a logical connection to offer what we have available in The ReStore and find a way to make it happen. Even though our Habitat Waterloo facilities are closed to the public to promote Social Distancing, a protocol was arranged to make sure the needed furniture was made available for pick up and the health and safety of all participants was ensured. When we find out what our new normal is, we will need to work together even more and I feel this opportunity shows we have the will and the way to provide for others. We will come out of this with a new sense of community strength and be Stronger Together.
