Facilitated by Focus for Ethnic Women, Focus on New Beginnings is a social integration program for refugee women and their families. This weekly program held on Sunday afternoons enables newcomers through Reception House to build cross cultural understanding and confidence. It also provides a safe place to learn about each other and form friendships, often their first in Canada!
Sessions include literacy, numeracy and orientation to cultural life in Canada. These skills are attained through games and puzzles, cooking, fun facts, and participation in hands on indoor and outdoor activities, including physical exercises. Healthy snacks are offered at every session and bus tickets are available when needed. This is an inter generational program open to all ages held at our temporary accomodation site for newly arrived refugees.
